In the early 1900's the hayfield (also known as the footpath field|) belonged to John James Wood of nook farm, Ulverston. In the 1940's John left his daughter Elizabeth the Hayfield. Over the hill from this field was a house, cottage and stone barn for sale. The owner had been killed by his bull. Elizabeth and her husband Harold bought the farmhouse, and a small cow shed for 18 cows was built - woodside farm was born.

Woodside Farm is now a 300 acre, 200 cow dairy farm.
